It's that time of year when we get to cheer for our faves at the Super Bowl of the music industry, The Billboard Music Awards! It's an annual ceremony that celebrates the best of the best in the music world.
The #BBMA as it is affectionately abbreviated is one of the top three industry awards along with the American Music Awards, and The Grammys.
The purpose of the Billboard Music Awards is to recognize and honor the artists, songs, and albums that dominated the charts in the past year. The event first graced T.V. screens in 1990, and was created to acknowledge the artists who ruled the charts based on actual chart performance and sales data. It's all about the numbers.
Over the years, the Billboard Music Awards has undergone various changes to keep up with the ever-evolving music scene. They've introduced new award categories like this year's top Hot 100 songwriter, Top Hot 100 producer, and Top Rock Duo/Group.
They've also tweaked the nomination process, and added more performances. The criteria for determining the winners is a combination of chart data, sales, streams, radio airplay, and social media engagement.
It's like a scientific formula, but with more musical notes and fewer lab coats. Winning a Billboard Music Award can often lead to a surge in album sales, song downloads, and streams. The most nominated male artist this year is Morgan Wallen with 17 nominations, and Taylor Swift leads overall nominations with 20.
One of the things that make the Billboard Music Awards unforgettable are the acceptance speeches from our favorite artists. Whether it's a heartfelt thank you or a motivational speech that leaves you feeling inspired, these moments stick with us long after the show is over.
Who can forget Taylor Swift's iconic acceptance speech back in 2013 where she thanked her fans for being the longest relationship she's ever had.. It's moments like these that remind us why we love our favorite artists and why their recognition at the Billboard Music Awards is so important.
This year history may be made as Taylor has a strong chance of surpassing Drake who holds the record for most Billboard Music Award wins with 34. Throughout the years The Billboard Music Awards has also given us some of the most incredible performances
This year's lineup promises to be memorable and include Morgan Wallen, Mariah, BeBe, among many others. Additionally, Jelly Roll, and Bailey Zimmerman are first time nominees.
This year the show will not be broadcasted on T.V, and it will not have a host. What follows are all the details on where and how to watch and a list of country and gospel nominees. Some of our artists have nominations in categories other than country, and we've included it below. This year's nominees are stellar. Winners will be highlighted in blue. Good luck everybody!
